Come Celebrate the Year of the Pig!
Fundraising Cooking Class & Banquet
Saturday February 24
Under the expert guidance of Chef
Don Skipworth,
aka Skip
In China, the arrival of the New Year marks the first day of spring. The energy of the universe shifts from male to female, and foods symbolizing long life, fertility, and prosperity are privileged: spring rolls because they are shaped like gold ingots, lettuce as a symbol of money, all seeds, fish, long noodles. No sweeping is done on New Year's day, not to risk sweeping away good luck.
So that he will speak sweet words about the household, the kitchen god's lips are smeared with honey before he is burned,
to be transported to the Jade Emperor on the back of crickets,
which are known as "Hearth Horses."
